Based out of Buenos Aires, London, Malta and Italy, Quinel has garnered a reputation as one of the most adaptive and intuitive international test labs With big regulatory shifts coming from both mature and new markets alike, Pietro Fiorito, Quinel CCO, talks to iGaming Times about stepping up to the challenges in 2019.
iGAMINGTIMES:Could you start by explaining a little about Quinel and what you offer firms in the igaming sector?
PIETRO FIORITO: Quinel Limited is a leading independent and internationally accredited Testing Lab and Inspection Body. We perform our services in all the regulated markets of the igaming industry. Our services cover games, payment methods, platforms and much more. Moreover, we operate from three different offices around the world: Malta, Italy and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Last December, our company celebrated its 10th Anniversary
PF: The main challenges arise from the various newly-regulated markets that are coming online this year. Sweden is a case in point, which officially launched at the beginning of January this year. Sweden, for us, was a challenge, but it’s also been a great opportunity to prove ourselves. In fact I’m proud to say that we’ve succeeded in obtaining all the necessary ISO Standards requested by Lotteriinspektionen, the Swedish Regulator, including the ISO 27001.
But it’s not only new markets that present challenges. There have been various, and often sudden regulatory changes and restrictions imposed on certain aspects of the industry by many of the well-established jurisdictions as well.
iGT: How does Quinel set itself apart from other testing laboratories in the market today?
PF: I believe in being competitive with ourselves, rather than comparing our- selves to others. That said, I’d focus on our ability to create long term partnerships. That’s because our flexibility, our ability to quickly adapt to changes, to under- stand the market and our partners’ needs, as well as our high quality technical expertises and our speed at meeting deadlines are some of our strongest assets.
Obviously all this contributes to us keeping our reputation high and intact, giving us a well-known name throughout the whole industry. Needless to say, that’s extremely important to us and to our partners.
iGT: As you say, regulations are tightening in many of the worlds mature markets this year. Which aspects of the industry are becoming more restricted and how does this affect your work as a test lab?
PF: Indeed. Regulations are tightening, especially for certain aspects related to player protection, responsible gaming and privacy. New procedures and new regulations are always an opportunity for us, but also increase the level of attentive- ness and responsibility required from an independent entity as we are. Needless to say, we are eager and ready to embrace the challenges. Actually, we truly look forward to it.
iGT: Why was important for you to exhibit at ICE 2019 – and what will be your message for the show?
PF: I trust it’s no surprise if i say that ICE London represents a beacon for the entire gaming industry. Among all the events that we organise throughout the year, it’s definitely one of the most important for us and we’ve participate in it for several years now. This year, just like last year, our Booth is N5-200.
