With the news that SBTech has been selected to provide its sportsbook to a second NJ operator, Marc Brody, USA Director of Business Affairs, says his firm’s software is “architected” to adapt to newly-regulated markets.
iGAMING TIMES: What do you make of New Jersey’s regulatory framework?
MARC BRODY: The New Jersey regulatory framework is not unlike existing regulated markets in the UK and EU. There are proper checks and balances put in place to ensure a safe and secure gaming environment for the people of New Jersey. The Division of Gaming Enforcement has done an outstanding job working with companies like SBTech to under- stand what consumers are looking for from a product standpoint and creating the appropriate regulatory framework to create a sustainable and lucrative sports betting ecology.
iGT: How do you see this market developing over the next 12 months, and what will be its defining characteristics?
MB: We expect the US market to continue to grow over the next 12 months as more states adopt sports betting laws. The defining characteristics will be a combination of well thought out legislation that does not over tax sports betting and the adoption of mobile and online with an understanding that sports betting, like any other form of entertainment should be readily avail- able on your phone if you so choose.
iGT: How can SBTech’s expertise help Resorts Casino become a leading player in this context?
MB: SBTech brings a deep understanding of sports and entertainment to the table for all of our partners. We expect Resorts to deploy the latest in sports betting technology as allowed by the DGE which could include SBTech’s patent pending “Pulse Bet” feature which adds a new twist on live betting that we think will revolutionize in-play betting and fast markets. Resorts is a well-established brand in the market and we look forward to working with them on creating unique experiences for their customers.
iGT: The US is widely expected to become a patchwork of wildly varying regulatory models. How well placed is SBTech to scale across such differences?
MB: SBTech is architected for regulation. We are currently live in 14 regulated markets and expanding year after year into newly regulated territories. There is very little we haven’t seen at this point and we continue to maintain our flexibility in each business unit to make sure we can adapt quickly to any new conditions that may arise in the future.
We are quite confident that we are the world leader in speed to market for newly regulated gaming jurisdictions.
