UKGC published three-year plan for consumer protection

The UK Gambling Commission has released its Strategy 2018 to 2021, outlining a focus on in-game consumer protection developments for operators.

The strategy, which details the commission’s key targets for the upcoming year, includes a push for the implementation of protections and control measures from the start of gaming product development.

“Our ambitious plans for the next 12 months and beyond are designed to enable us to continue to respond to emerging risks and issues,” said UKCG chair William Moyes.

Part of the commission’s programme to increase trust in gambling, the document reveals only 34 percent of the population agree the

industry is fair and can be trusted, down from 49 percent in 2008.

Alongside aims for the development process, the document includes strategies for protecting consumers through the use of data and risk management as well as optimising the amount good causes and charities receive from lotteries.

The commission itself will also aim to innovate its regulation procedures and expand its partnerships internationally.

“Our strategy and plans will deliver real change for consumers, the gambling industry and for us as the regulator,” said Moyes. “Our aim is to make gambling fairer and safer and to raise standards across the industry.”
