Playtrex to launch social gaming freemium: Wild Poker

After a dozen years in development, Israeli social gaming company Playtrex has released Wild Poker – a new social poker product which it claims could reinvent the genre.

 

Tel Aviv-based social gaming start-up Playtrex is looking to breathe new life into the social poker market with “Wild Poker,” a highly compelling new freemium poker game with an exclusive strategic twist, released on 25 August 2016 as an open-beta.

Wild Poker is Texas Hold’em but with an added layer of strategy that draws, in a very simple way, from the popularity of turn-based digital strategy games like Hearthstone. Users can play as one of an array of colorful characters, each with its own particular strategic “power up.” Players must harness their special “animal instincts” to master the game.

Wild Poker was created after over 12 months of thorough research undertaken to better understand users’ needs and behaviour. After studying the current social poker sector, Playtrex found issues with monetization and low levels of retention and has built a game that tackle these issues. With a focus on high engagement and a compelling player journey, Playtrex aims to shake up the market with an offering that will create high retention and monetization.

A long period of time was also spent studying, testing and tweaking the in-game economy, the right balances between each and every power up and creating the right game mechanism. The aforesaid enabled Playtrex to come up with a fresh and exciting game with a twist never seen before, but without changing the essence.

“Social gaming is booming, so we think that the timing for a fresh new take on the genre is perfect. Nowadays, social poker, once the jewel of social casino gaming, is being abandoned by players because there is too much of the same out there. In addition, the user acquisition market has become saturated, and the low retention rates fired back as monetization issues,” said Daniel Kashmir, CEO at Playtrex.

Online mobile gaming is a $37bn market with a 15 percent annual increase, while social casino gaming alone is currently worth $4bn. Playtrex believes that the social poker market has become stagnant due to a lack of differentiation and is in desperate need of a new “killer app.”

“Wild Poker is a new kind of social poker game offering a different experience,” Kashmir continued. “Wild Poker addresses a larger market by providing an added layer of strategy which is appealing to both strategy gamers and social poker players, resulting in a high monetization and in a journey that keeps players coming back for more.”
