Secret Betting Club’s Hall of Fame welcomed a new member in April, with ‘Daily Nap’ – the free daily tipster report from Bettingexpert – receiving high praise from the independent tipster reviewers. Stephen Harris, the man behind the tips, shared his insights into winning acclaim as well as securing a decent return on investment.

Harris explained that his success was down to decades of focused, organised and highly analytical work going way back to his teenage years and university days, when he first discovered his talent for punting at horse and greyhound tracks with his father.

With 15 years at two greyhound tracks under his belt, he seized the opportunity to become the racing editor for BettingExpert when it arose, marking the beginning of a successful career delivering tips that give punters an edge over the bookies.

“There is no magic formula, but I do spend a huge amount of time watching racing, and keeping a database of notes and views about every runner. Hopefully my opinion is good enough to continue to exploit any pricing errors and find winners for our followers,” he said. “Patience is required and there are losing runs where you do question yourself, but betting is a long-term business and maintaining a level head and controlled staking is the best advice any new punter can receive.”

Specialising in horseracing presents its own unique challenges, according to Harris, but ones that he has succeeded in meeting with the same analytical focus that is the hallmark of his approach.

“The sheer volume of racing is one massive issue in horse racing. With so many races throughout the season, many of them low grade, with rookie riders, it becomes a challenge to stay on top of all,” he explained. “For me, it is important to specialise in certain areas, such as novice hurdles or 2yo races on the flat, and make sure I’m fully knowledgeable on the horses I’m backing.”

Indeed, consistency is key for Harris in delivering results for punters – and building the trust that has allowed him to create the reputation he enjoys today.

He explained: “I try to be consistent in my methodology, seeking out the races where I believe there is a weak link in the chain at the front of the market. Trust is built up by the fact that we have maintained a decent strike rate over five years and the results are independently verified.”

Described by SBC as “ultraconsistent”, an official endorsement of this kind is bound to put Daily Naps – and Harris – on track for yet more success.

“The Secret Betting Club are rigorously independent and are a breath of fresh air in how they approach all tipsters, particularly those who charge for their services. They’re a respected organisation within tipping, and their opinions on industry matters and the quality of the tipsters they analyse really hold weight,” Harris said. “Being in their Hall of Fame is a terrific endorsement for Bettingexpert’s Daily Nap, and I hope I can maintain the high standards for many years to come.”
