The social media platform Twitter is boosting its efforts to bring esports gamers to its platform by hiring an executive it wooed from Youtube.
Rodrigo Velloso, previously of Google as director of gaming at youtube, joined Twitter in September. In anticipation of the rise of esports Twitter has, with Velloso’s, help entered into a number of partnerships with gaming developers and esports athletes. This month esports athletes from the pro teams Cloud9 and Team SoloMid were verified and many more are expected to follow suit in the year.
