US game developer EA Games is to launch a new competitive gaming division in order to facilitate global e-sports contests across some of its titles.
The EA competitive gaming division will feature EA Sports series such as ‘Fifa’, ‘Madden NFL’ as well as ‘Battlefield’.
Peter Moore, chief operating officer at EA, will become executive vice president and chief competition officer for the new division.
“We’re already very engaged with our development teams around the world to make sure our games have got modes that lend themselves very well to competitive gaming, built in from the get-go. There are things you don’t need any more that are going to be replaced by e-sports modes,” said Moore.
Andrew Wilson, chief executive of EA Sports, said the new division would be built around three core pillars: competition, community and entertainment.
