The co-owner of Betfred, Fred Done, is reported to have suggested he may be interested in picking up 500 retail outlets that he believes may have to be sold in order for the Ladbrokes Coral merger to completed.

The merger would create a 4000 shop company, but it is widely considered that a number of these will have to be sold to satisfy concerns from the Competition and Markets Authority.

“If somebody knocks at my door and says: ‘Fred, do you want to buy some of these shops?’ I’d like to sit down with Coral and Ladbrokes and have a discussion with them.”
